This has been my arm candy for the past month. The Jawbone Up is a sleek wrist sensor and mobile app that tracks your sleep activity, steps, calorie intake and more. Up gives you meaningful, personalized insights so you can make lasting improvements to your everyday life. I have worn my Up band religiously only taking it off to shower and charge it every 10 or so days. The Jawbone up is a water-resistant band and claims to be safe in the shower, just not prolonged or submerged, that being said I didn’t feel comfortable putting it in the shower. Up takes a holistic approach to a healthy lifestyle, tracking your movement and sleep in the background.
Wear your band doing your everyday tasks. You can even use it as a food diary and log your meals and drinks easily by snapping a picture to the app, using the barcode scanner or inputting them manually. Keep track of your daily calories, nutritional intake, and hold yourself accountable.
Before you drift to sleep put your band in sleep mode. Sleep mode will track your sleep habits. Ever wonder just how long it took you to fall asleep? How long you were in a light and deep sleep? What about how many times you woke up during the night? Are you a sleepwalker and not even know it?
Sync your phone and get the detailed skinny on your personal data and mood, and delivers insights that keep you moving forward. This has been such an eye opening experience for me. You can set the armband to vibrate as a reminder that you are not being active. I set mine for 15 minutes, if I am “idle” for 15 my armband will vibrate and I know I need to get off my tush and move around. To see that my habits have been so lax, has given me motivation to jump back into my gym routine and take real breaks from the long days at my computer.
If you are forgetful like me and don’t think to set your phone in the sleep mode, you can always edit the app and add in your sleep times, etc. Nice feature for someone like me that tends to think about things like sleep mode after I have slept.
Now just how accurate is the Jawbone Up? I have never owned an activity tracker until the Up band. But I did do my research to learn just exactly what makes the Up band tick. Up uses MotionX technology the app allows you to calibrate the band using the built-in calibration feature for the best accuracy. The algorithms track and quantify your steps, distance, calories, active time, and idle time. The calories burned are based on your age, gender, height and weight, along with the activity tracked. Your sleep is tracked using actigraphy that monitors your micro movements to determine whether you are awake, in light sleep, or in deep sleep.
The Jawbone Up wristband is available at Best Buy for $129.99
