Bond of Brothers

My husband and I often wonder how we ended up parents to three boys.  It seems like just yesterday we were going out to dinner solo.  The chaos around us is fun and unpredictable, and we absolutely love it.

Today we overheard our 2 year old talking to his 10 year old brother.

Brody: “Bub {short for bubba} call me a bad word!” Mind you a bad word in his book is along the lines of the word dumb.

Bubba: “why?”

Brody: “Bub call me a bad word, now!”

My husband, intervened and asked what did he want to be called.  Out of curiosity, of course, but we was almost didn’t want to know.

Brody: “I want bub to go to time out” in an upset tone, probably because dad overheard.

Seriously, this kid thinks if I can get my brother to say a bad word he will go to time out.  Bubba hasn’t sat in time out, in like never.  Brody on the other hand has four time out spots on the first floor of our house.  He dreads timeout, but somehow always ends up there.

Bubba’s life was turned upside down when Brody came along.  Brody sits on the porch every afternoon and waits for that yellow bus to come down the street.  He runs up and greets his brother with a capri-sun and a kiss.  He begs Bubba to play with him in the bath tub, which Bubba happily does nightly.  He gets in Bubba’s full size bed and drifts off to sleep.  I usually  listen to them talk, mostly Brody has no idea what he’s talking about but he engages Bubba in conversations about video games, movies and baseball.

The bond these brothers have makes my heart melt.
