Summer is in full swing, not like I had to remind you of that. What I do want to shed light on is, teen accidents and fatality rates during summer. The statistics drastically increase with teenagers during summertime. Risky behaviors like not wearing a seat belt, riding in a car driven by someone who had been drinking, or texting while driving—is highest among Hispanic teens according to the CDC’s Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance.
“Auto crashes are the number one cause of death among teens in North America.”
Dangerous situations can happen at any moment and while restrictions on our teens when we aren’t with them is virtually impossible, what is possible is that you and I can make a bigger commitment to teen driver safety and celebrate safe driving. Becoming a more informed safe driver is not as hard as it may sound. State Farm has taken the initiative since 2012 with Celebrate My Drive, a campaign aimed at instilling that driver safety starts from the beginning and never ends. It’s up to you and I to stand behind this initiative and promote Teen Driver Safety.
Celebrate My Drive program is rewarding schools and communities for making safe driving commitments. Those schools and students that commit to safe teen driving will make their school eligible to win grant money for school programs and a private concert by a GRAMMY® Award nominee band.
Get your school signed up at www.celebratemydrive.com by the registration close date of Oct. 7th. Commit to safe driving once a day every day from October 15-24 in support of your favorite high school. Keep up to date by liking Celebrate My Drive on Facebook.
The 100 high schools generating the most safe-driving commitments during Oct. 15-24 with the most online safe driving commitments will win a grant award of $25,000 or $100,000.
Two grand prize winning schools will receive a private concert by a GRAMMY® Award nominee band.
