You are strong, beautiful and priceless! Three simple words that should define myself and YOU. As a woman it is important to know our personal self worth. I know first hand how easy it is to spiral further and further away from believing that you deserve nothing less than the best and R-E-S-P-E-C-T. Sometimes we lose that and I’m here to tell you it’s okay – it’s never to late.

It’s time we woman stand strong and raise awareness together.  The Allstate Foundation is investing more than half a million dollars in the Purple Purse Challenge. By joining the Purple Purse Challenge you can help domestic violence survivors not be financially trapped.  Open your heart and wallet to stand up for survivors and the organizations that serve them at bolsomorado.com.

It is important for every man, woman and child to know exactly what domestic violence is? Domestic violence is violent and abusive behaviors by a significant other that can be categorized by any or all of the following;  physical, emotional, verbal, economic and/or sexual abuse.

Not all picture perfect on the outside relationships follow suit behind closed doors. Many woman hide in a secret bubble of emotional and physical abuse. I encourage you to know the signs of an abusive relationship and not be afraid to speak up and do something about it.  Did you know that domestic violence affects 1 in 4 women in her lifetime? Your friend, neighbor, sister… someone you know is most likely dealing with some form of domestic violence right now.

That’s more women than breast cancer, ovarian cancer and lung cancer combined (American Cancer Society).

Most people think only of physical abuse when they consider domestic violence. Yet, financial abuse happens in 98 percent of all cases of domestic violence and is one of the most powerful ways to keep a victim trapped.

Go to purplepurse.com between Sept. 2 and Oct. 3 to join the Challenge and help a nonprofit near you.

Purple Purse ambassador  Kerry Washington (Emmy-nominated actress and domestic violence activist) is helping to raise awareness for the cause with a  limited- edition purple purse. Inspiring women to reclaim their financial independence.
