Listerine 21 Day Challenge Follow Up

How did we do in the Listerine 21 Day Challenge?

Right before January I talked about how my family was taking the Listerine 21 Day Challenge.  It was definitely a challenge!  Three boys who think brushing was invented to be mean to kids.  Our boys who have always brushed their teeth twice a day out of necessity, now brush their teeth with a purpose.

I am proud to say that we have completed the 21 days challenge and it has TOTALLY changed our oral cleaning routine.  I had no idea that a repetitive month of complete care of our oral hygiene would be such a transformation.  I knew the challenge would be easy for my husband and I.  After all we are adults, we know the benefits of flossing, brushing and rinsing.  For our three boys brushing their teeth was torture.  They did it because we made them and if I wasn’t supervising it wasn’t getting done right (if at all).  Midway into the challenge we found ways to make brushing, flossing and rinsing a family affair. It has totally changed our entire families routine.

Here’s a Listerine 21 Day Challenge recap

We started with the facts!  This really helped our oldest son, my husband and myself put the entire challenge into prospective.

There are more germs in your mouth than there are people on earth.

With that little tidbit did you know just brushing, is missing 75% of your mouth.  You also need to be flossing and rinsing twice daily.

Oral Disease is the most chronic childhood illness in the U.S.

For millions of children this is affecting their normal daily life.  With trouble sleeping, eating and learning.

Approximately 130 million Americans lack dental insurance

That’s more than 15.4 million children.

With the right Products we had a 3 step program.  We made it a point to teach our children how to properly brush, floss and rinse.

We keep Accountability

We have a calendar that is a constant reminder to brush, floss and rinse twice daily.  Everyone is expected to follow it.  We have turned our children’s hygiene routines into part of their tasks to get their weekly allowance.  It helps us all take accountability for our actions and serves as an incentive for our children.  Once we put this in place our children completely changed their oral care.

You can still get involved in the 21 day challenge.  Our family has no plans on stopping.

A Listerine video, yup!!

  1. My kids brush & rinse, but we haven’t gotten them in the habit of flossing yet. Thanks for this info – some of those stats are scary!
