The California born chain restaurant Del Taco makes its way to the Alamo City. Del Taco opened it’s first San Antonio restaurant this month at 10926 Culebra Road. After yesterdays unsuccessful shopping excursion and taking the boys to the movies, I was in need of a night off from the kitchen. I stopped by the new Del Taco to pick up dinner for the family. There are no shortage of menu items and to be honest I wanted to try just about everything on the menu.
The restaurant features a large dining room, a salsa bar, free wi-fi and a 24-hour drive-thru. Breakfast served at this location from 11pm – 11am. How convenient is that? Del Taco was packed, there was a line to get into the parking lot and the drive-thru was wrapped around the building. Mind you it was a Saturday afternoon and that area of Culebra is always congested.
Menu items are prepared to order using fresh ingredients including cheddar cheese grated from 40-pound blocks, hand-made pico de gallo salsa, lard-free beans slow cooked from scratch and marinated chicken grilled in the restaurant. Del Taco also serves breakfast featuring a full line of breakfast burritos.
We had the Fiesta pack which includes (6) regular tacos and (6) 1/2 lb. bean and cheese burritos. We also tried the Crunchtadas. While everything was great, I have to admit I was particularly fond of the crunchtada. The Crunchtada is a tostada with their signature zesty sauce.
To say that this was more than enough food would be an understatement. With large stuffed burritos and crispy beef tacos we were pleasantly happy with the taste and freshness of the food.
And dessert, how could you forget that? Cheesecake bites, these deep fried decadent crunchy warm bites are delish.
I also had to have the brownie crunch bites, these didn’t make it home though. The brownie bites are served warm with a crunchy outer layer and a soft almost chewy inside.
