Fun iPad and iPod Apps for Kids

There are many great cell phone, computer and tablet applications for adults, from organizing your life, helping you with your work and connecting you with your friends. But what about apps for kids? Here are some fun iPad and iPod apps for kids:

“Angry Birds” – “Angry Birds” undoubtedly is the one of the most popular kids’ apps, taking the world by storm since its release in 2009 in more than 50 countries. With 240 different levels, the player launches cartoon birds at their pig nemeses using a finger-activated slingshot. Each level gets progressively more challenging as pigs hide behind more solidified structures. There are a few versions of the game, including a holiday-themed “Angry Birds Seasons” and one based on the movie “Rio,” with the added element of mischievous monkeys. “Angry Birds” is quite the moneymaking behemoth, with a line of plush toys and themed recipes.
“Kid Art” – While there are many drawing apps for kids on the App Store, one of the best of the bunch is “Kid Art.” Users choose a type of crayon and start coloring away. “Kid Art” takes things a step further with more than 20 different pre-drawn backgrounds, a choice of cartoon animal and object stamps that you can add to any picture, and a choice of themes for each stamp and background. “Kid Art” is great for kids in that it has many great features to help foster their creativity, yet it is very user friendly without the complications of “advanced” features.
“WeetWoo!” – “WeetWoo!” provides a safe and education medium for kids to watch videos. There are many great educational and family-friendly clips that kids can watch on YouTube, such as old clips of “Sesame Street” or new episodes of “Dora the Explorer.” Unfortunately, many of the offensive comments and “bad” videos are not always filtered out. For “WeetWoo!,” the app’s creators remedied this by choosing the best educational, safe, and kid-friendly content on YouTube, and serve them up on a user friendly digital interface. Videos are broken up into age ranges and categories, with clear descriptions for helping kids find the videos of interest.
“Kids Song Machine” – “Kids Song Machine” is sing-along app. Kids can sing along to many of the children’s classics, such as “Row, Row, Row Your Boat,” The “Itsy Bitsy Spider” and “I’ve Been Working on the Railroad.” It is very detailed, the songs are well produced and the graphics are interesting. The app has many fun and interactive elements as well, such touching a fish on the screen and making it swim away.

If you have a keen interest in children’s education or software program design, there are many avenues for pursuing a career in these fields. For more information, check out www.accredited-online-colleges.org.

Here is my favorite recipe and while it is not my own idea, it is the perfect messy fun every kiddo will obsess over.  A great magic potion recipe to try with your kiddo.  Grab a few ice cube trays, kool-aid packets, water, sprite or club soda and clear cups.  Make different flavors of kool-aid to achieve vibrant mix of colors.  Fill the ice cube trays with kool-aid and freeze.  Once frozen add cubes, and sprite {or club soda} to clear cups.  As cubes begin to melt the clear liquid will change colors and flavors.  This is a fun treat for your kids and especially for parties.

This is the perfect opportunity to have some fun with your kids.  A great rainy day or even a weekend project.  I am incorporating  this site into my three and one year olds preschool at home projects.  A great resource for fun learning projects that wont bore the kids and especially me.  How about those science  projects your kid has to do for school?  My fifth grader has had his share of at home projects.  We scramble to find something interesting and usually fall short.  The Recipes for Fun site is now my bookmarked go to site.
