It is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. To raise awareness on how Domestic violence affects one in four women in their lifetime (that’s more women than breast cancer, ovarian cancer and lung cancer combined) the Allstate Domestic Violence Purple Purse campaign has pledged to donate up to $350,000 to the YWCA. Domestic violence happens more than 145 times each hour in the U.S. On average, three women die every day as a result.
Purple Purse, now in its third year, helps people carry on conversations and pass along information about domestic violence and financial abuse by placing the power directly into people’s hands with a purple purse. The Allstate Foundation is sending more than 1,000 purses carrying domestic violence information throughout the country. The purses will be passed between co-workers, friends, and family, sparking important conversations along the way.
The Allstate Domestic Violence Purple Purse program is designed to raise awareness and assist survivors of domestic violence and other women in need. Women often lack the financial knowledge and resources. This is the number one indicator of whether a domestic violence victim will stay, leave or return to an abusive relationship. Not only can we raise awareness on Domestic Violence we can also contribute to making difference.
You don’t have to get your hands on a purse to help, every time someone clicks on the purple purse link and passes the purse by entering the code 0003, a $5 donation will be triggered from Allstate Foundation to the YWCA for programs that support victims of domestic violence and build financial empowerment. The donation period will last through the end of October or until the goal of $350,000 is reached.
