Moms Pure Wisdom

Growing up I spent a big part of my childhood not comfortable in my own skin. I always felt average inside and out, hated my appearance and was very critical of myself overall. Of course instead of making decisions to improve myself, I resorted to complaining and living an unhealthy lifestyle. My mom saw most of my insecurities early on and made it her mission to encourage me to take care of myself, be myself and love myself with her good ole’ moms pure wisdom.
I turned to junk food and continuous eating to mask my sadness of not being good enough. To curb my bad habits my mom changed what we had in our kitchen. She stocked our pantry with less junk food and healthier options. Our refrigerator stopped housing soda and sugar based drinks, but now was stocked with bottled waters and fresh juices. My mom couldn’t control how I ate when I wasn’t with her but she could control how I ate at home. Her trick to have healthy snacks that we could take along with us also helped me to make healthy choices. She always had on-the-go bottles of water ready to go if we needed a drink. Our family meals became based around proteins and fresh options rather than overly processed food that did nothing for us. Just making that change at home helped me to make healthier choices outside of home.
“Your body is your temple, treat it that way.”
Now that I am a mother to three, I have made it my mission to inspires my own children to love and respect themselves. Our kitchen is filled with healthy snack options, we refuse to bring sugar based drinks into our home and stock our refrigerator with water and fresh fruit juices. We keep snacks healthy on the go and take along ready-to-go bottles of water to help us make the right choices. I remind my children that once upon a time I was a kid too.
