I thought as your kids get older the mess gets easier. When my kids were toddlers the amount of food under their chairs, on their chairs and around the table was enough that I could actually skip feeding the dog. My kids are now 5, 7 and one teenager. With the arrival of our fourth a few months away, I can’t help but pray my boys get it together very soon. Really is it a boy thing or are kids just messy creatures. They can make any meal time equal messy time.
Eating In Family Meal Tips
Realistic Family Friendly Meals
As much as I love to eat macaroni and grapes every single night, I also love to explore delicious foods. We have learned to take a realistic approach to our family meals. I add in one new item a few nights a week. Whether it is a new side or a new recipe, I don’t overwhelm my family with a ton of new flavors in one meal.
Keep a calendar handy for your family to add in something they are craving or something new they want to have again. A monthly calendar on the fridge is also a great way to display what you will be making each week and skips the what are we having for dinner tonight questions.
Family Friendly Eating Area
Skip the formal dining area and opt for a more family friendly eating area. We use our island with a wipe clean PEVA tablecloth to eat just about every meal. We use chair covers that can easily be thrown in the wash. It’s easy to take our kitchen from this to this:
Clean up routine
