Sippin’ Around San Antonio With a Dirty Hot Chocolate, Matcha Latte and More

I’m kicking off the weekend with a list of hot spots in San Antonio to give you all those warm and fuzzies. We’ve been spoiled by these 70+ degree days lately, but have you checked the forecast? The temps next week look to be dropping and chilly nights are coming. It’s going to be the perfect weather for strolls through the Pearl and walks along the river popping through some of my favorite hot spots for a delectable winter sip. Plus the San Antonio twinkling lights are my favorite reason to end your days in the heart of San Antonio.

Bakery Lorraine 

The seasonal Matcha Latte is made with green tea infused with rose water, steamed to a rich creaminess with any choice of milk for $4.50 or the Latte made with an exclusive seasonal blend of Merit Coffee and steamed with any milk choice for $4.50. Sip on traditional hot sips like Hot Chocolate with Callebaut Belgian dark chocolate, topped with housemade whipped cream and powdered cocoa.

La Panadería

The perfect homemade Mexican Hot Chocolate and Dirty Hot Chocolate (Chocolate Abuelita + Espresso) are being whipped up this winter at La Panaderia. Pair your favorite delectable hot drink with a concha at the bakery. 

La Panaderia is located downtown on E. Houston St and in Alamo Heights on Broadway St.

The Esquire Tavern

This historic bar has been a staple along the Riverwalk since 1933. You can find a delectable Esquire’s Hot Toddy with your choice of spirit includes: apple brandy, bourbon whiskey, or esquire rum blend no. 9 with honey, lemon, allspice, served warm.

Make your own with the recipe:

ESQUIRE TAVERN HOT TODDY:

  • 1.5oz Choice of Spirit – apple brandy, bourbon whiskey, or esquire rum blend no. 9 (We recommend Apple Brandy for those who haven’t tried it.)
  • .75oz Honey Syrup (Honey:Water, 3:1)
  • .75oz Fresh Lemon Juice
  • .25oz Hamilton Pimento Dram
  • Method: Shake liquid ingredients without ice in a shaker tin, and pour into warmed glass or mug, add 4oz water (200°F), and stir.
  • Garnish: Wide swath of lemon zest pierced with 3 whole cloves. Light the cloves with a match, and express the oil of the lemon peel while the cloves are flaming for a little fireworks show, and drop into glass.
  • Glassware: Footed Glass or Mug, warmed with hot wate

Supper and Larder at Hotel Emma

The delectable traditional Oaxacan Hot Chocolate can be found at both Supper and Larder at the Hotel Emma. The drink features chocolate and salt from Oaxaca, the hotel’s version of this popular drink is creamy and decadent but not too sweet, with authentic Mexican cinnamon which gives it a special kick. 

Supper and Larder are located inside Hotel Emma at the Pearl.
