Happy Birthday Sweet Brody

Happy Birthday Sweet Brody

Brody turned 5!  Every year we throw a party to celebrate, but this year we decided that a party with mostly adults and a handful of kids just wasn’t fair to him.  Sure it’s not the quantity of kids, but inviting 30+adults and give or take 6 kids to Chuck E. Cheese is really awkward if you think about it. We gave Brody free rein to choose what he wanted to do on his birthday.  I expected some extravagant ideas, but this little boy wanted nothing to do with leaving the house.  He had his heart set on a trip to game stop, a taco and home to play his games.  He definitely does not get this homebody lifestyle from me.  It was the most relaxing, non-stressful birthday I have ever been a part of.  And you know what, I kind of dig that we didn’t have to fret over the stresses of a birthday party.

We reminisced over all of this little boys accomplishments in 5 short years.  I feel beyond blessed to have such a funny, sweet and strong willed little boy.  Brody came at just the right moment in our lives.  I dreamt about this little boy months before I was pregnant with him.  I spent my first trimester terrified to get attached to the idea of being pregnant.  I cautiously went along with my days doing everything I hoped was right.  When I hit 13 weeks the fear of a miscarriage didn’t leave but was only magnified.  I was pregnant in 2009, I have the entire 14 weeks of that pregnancy ingrained in my memory.  A miscarriage is a hard pill to swallow…period!  My Dr. had no answers for me, only that these things happen and there was no reason why I couldn’t have a healthy pregnancy later.

14 weeks came and went and my next Dr.s appointment at 17 weeks left me with joys and memories of that swooshing little heartbeat.  I tiptoed through the pregnancy and made it to 37 weeks when suddenly I found myself in full fledged labor.  November 26, 2010 the day before Thanksgiving we welcomed Brody a 6lb. 11oz. amazing little miracle.  It didn’t dawn on me until that evening that I was in that exact hospital, on that same day a year ago, feeling completely helpless as the doctor explained that we had lost the baby.  I begged for a second ultrasound.

It is a bitter sweet day.  I found myself depressed and sad for the life that was gone.  But on November 26, 2010 I was sitting in a hospital bed staring at this sweet little soul, who came along to help mend my broken heart.   Happy Birthday to my sweet Brody, you will never know how special you are to me.
