Have you ever thought skydiving sounds like fun? Every time we drive by iFly San Antonio on 1604 and I10 my teenage son exclaims how fun it would be to go skydiving. Like the real jump out of a plane, give mama a heart attack skydiving. I secretly wish I shared his fearless attitude. He went as far as to google skydiving and found out he needed to be at least 18 to jump out of a plane. I was secretly relieved, because I can’t imagine the terror I would go through thinking about my child jumping thousands of feet out of the sky. Thanks to iFLY San Antonio my family had the opportunity to experience a much safer and controlled flying atmosphere.
Indoor Skydiving at iFLY San Antonio
iFLY brings the dream of skydiving to reality with a vertical wind tunnel that allows you to take flight in the smooth air chamber. First time flyers start with a training class that gives you the ins and outs of what to do in the flight simulator. After the training class you get a flight suit, goggles, ear plugs and a helmet to wear for your experience. Make sure to go dressed in comfortable street clothes and tennis shoes.

Going into the experience my teenager was a bit nervous as he didn’t know what to expect. After it was over, he was amazed at how calm the experience was. There were no drops and you don’t get that motion sickness feeling ever, but he still experienced that adrenaline rush of flying. His huge takeaway from the experience was that the wind tunnel is loud, so that contributed to the idea that it might be “scary”. It can be overwhelming if you are already nervous about taking flight, especially if your ear plugs happen to come out. He was relieved that his instructor was easy going and didn’t rush anyone in or out of the tunnel. Everyone seemed to feed off the energy of the instructor.

My son and husband loved every second of their experience at iFLY indoor skydiving. They haven’t quit talking about how awesome it was. The instructors were courteous and patient with them even after their flight. They had lots of questions and wanted to know so much about freestyle flying and learning to do flips. They already have their next flight planned for later this month and hope to one day become skilled enough to do more in the tunnel. The total experience lasts a little under an hour, including the class time. The actual flight time is two minutes, but it was worth the time spent in the class and watching other flyers in the group. As a spectator I was happy to see the set up of seating around the tunnel. I could sit their all day and watch everyone take flight. If you’re looking for a great adventure for you’re entire family look no further. iFLY is perfect for children as young as 3 and up.
