10 Tips to Go Green this Holiday Season #PlantingwithPablo

One of the big reasons we have chosen to go green and be more conscious of our waste is because it essentially saves us tons of money.  Going Green is not only the cool thing to do, but it also provides for a more sustainable future for our children.  The holidays somehow brings on tons of waste for our family year after year.  To be part of the change, I have come up with 10 Tips that everyone can do to be more green.

Plant A Tree with a Click

New Leaf Energy will be planting 1 new tree for every new Facebook Fan received through 12/23/13. Like the New Leaf Energy fan page for a greener future.

Use newspaper and embellish it with bright ribbon, burlap and a pine cone.

Christmas Tree

Go with a Christmas Tree that you can plant outside or put in a pot and have long after Christmas.  It’s a little unconventional and completely cool.

All those beautiful fabric scraps you can’t part with will make a great addition to your tree.  Cut scraps and tie them to the tree to make it fun and fashionable.  Make a paper chain with the kids.

Homemade Gifts

Canning jars are fun and festive fill them with your favorite dry soup ingredients, cookie recipe or hot cocoa.

Eco Friendly Gifts

Not the handmade type.  Buy local eco-friendly organic products.  Try handmade soaps, accessories or home goods.  Give battery free gifts.

Enjoy the Lights

Preserve energy by putting on your LED Christmas tree lights and turning all the rest of the house lights off.  Make sure to disconnect your tree at bed time.

Skip the disposable plates and flatware.  Pull out the china and silverware and opt for washing dishes.  Less mess and waste.

Bulk Shopping

With all of the visitors you will have over the holidays opt for buying in bulk.  Beverages, fruits, vegetables and snacks are great in bulk money savers.

Trash and Treasure

Go through old clothes, toys and housewares donate to charity.  Give someone the opportunity to have your old treasures and restore them to new.
